Cowboy hats that fit and keep their shape

A good cowboy hat is about fit as much as style. Our collection is led by Dallas Hats, with western hats from Justin Boots, Sendra, Ariat and The Boot Company. Styles range from classic western shapes to wide brims for shade and lighter hats for summer.

Brown cowboy hats are the most popular, followed by tan, black, natural and white. Most hats cost between about £35 and £110.

How to choose a cowboy hat

Felt or straw cowboy hat

A straw cowboy hat is light, breathable and ideal for summer, festivals and outdoor events. A felt cowboy hat is warmer, sheds light rain and looks smarter for evenings and winter. Our hat guide covers both.

Crown and brim

The crown is the top of the hat. A cattleman crown has a centre crease and two side dents, the most traditional shape. Brims range from narrow, which suits smaller faces and city wear, to wide brims that give more shade.

Colour

Brown and tan hats go with almost any boots. Black is the dressiest. White and natural straw hats are the summer classic.

Cowboy hat sizes

Hats are sized by head circumference. Ours are labelled in letters (S to XL) or in centimetres and US sizes, such as 7 1/4 (58 cm). Measure your head and use our cowboy hat size guide.

Questions

Cowboy hats: your questions

How do I measure my head for a cowboy hat?

Wrap a soft tape measure around your head about 1 cm above your ears and eyebrows, where the hat will sit. Compare the measurement in centimetres with our hat size guide. If you are between sizes, choose the larger one.

Felt or straw: which cowboy hat should I choose?

Straw hats are cooler and lighter, so they suit summer, festivals and sunny days. Felt hats are warmer, hold their shape well and look smarter in autumn and winter. Each product page tells you what the hat is made of.

How do I look after my cowboy hat?

Handle it by the brim rather than the crown, store it upside down on its crown or on a hat rack, and keep it away from heat. See our hat care guide.

Can I return a hat that doesn't fit?

Yes, you have 30 days to return an unworn hat. Returns are free in our London store.
